Meetings

NENA Board Meetings

The NENA Board regularly meets on the third Wednesday of each month, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Roosevelt music room (during the school year). However, due to the intersection repair workshops scheduled for May and June, our next board meeting will occur in July (location to be announced). All are welcome!
Up Next: Design Charrette: The Intersection Repair
Saturday, June 10, 10 to 1 in the Roosevelt multi-purpose room

We've prepared a list of supplies we're collecting to use on June 10 to create designs and models. If you have any of these materials but can't come to the workshops, please e-mail pguttchen@hotmail.com if you'd like to arrange to drop them off.

Notes of appreciation...

This project is a partnership between Olympia's Village Improvement Project and NENA. VIP is a very committed group of volunteers who have devoted their time and creativity to bring place-making to Olympia. NENA is grateful for their inspiration, passion, and expertise, and their willingness to join with us to make our neighborhood and the entire Olympia community a better place to live. Their tenacity and hard work—from their efforts to gain City approval to their work with other neighborhood associations and community groups—paved the way for this unique and exciting opportunity. None of this would have been possible without them!

Thank you, too, to the San Francisco Bakery and Eastside Co-op for their generous food donations!

Saturday, May 6 ~ Place-Making 101: Getting to Know You
We had a fun and productive workshop, and invite you to continue the conversation by posting your concerns, hopes, and vision for the San Francisco/Bethel intersection and the workshop process here!

Saturday, May 13 ~Site Analysis: San Francisco & Bethel
This week's workshop moved us outside to the intersection, where we observed traffic patterns and sketched ideas for staking our claim on this intersection. See photos!and check out Place-Making Conversation: Neighbor Ideas from January Meeting with Sidewalk Artist Carolyn Law.

School Traffic Survey
If you missed the May 9 cutoff to complete this survey, that's okay. We really want to know what you think about this issue, so please feel free to complete our survey today! We will use your input to come up with options to improve the safety of this neighborhood hub.
Reeves Middle School Connector to East Bay BIG NEWS!!
NENA and our partners, the East Bay Drive Neighborhood Association  and the Woodland Trail Greenway Association, were awarded the Thurston County STEPs grant to design the connector that links East Bay Drive to Reeves Middle School. We are now working with a landscape architect to design the trail.
Miller Ave. sidewalk from Fir St. to Friendly Grove
This is our top-priority project--making it safe for students to get to school and all of us to get to Friendly Grove Park! The goal is to be in construction by mid-July with completion in late August. Although there are right-of-way and other challenges, we are optimistic that the sidewalk will be built before school begins in Sept. 2006, and Reeves students start attending John Rogers while Reeves is remodeled. This project was originally scheduled to be completed after 2012.
San Francisco sidewalk
Given design challenges for the hill up from East Bay, the current plan calls for building the sidewalk from Quince to Garrison in 2006, and completing the project down to East Bay Drive in the near future.

Mission Creek Reserve

The first meeting of the core planning group was held on March 23 and work has begun on creating a base map of the property. After a base map is complete, we'll reach out to the neighborhood to begin creating a vision and developing a plan for the MCR. Stay tuned...
