If you would like to nominate someone, please take a few minutes to fill out the Good Neighbor Nomination form by September 8. And feel free to nominate more than one neighbor!

Reeves Middle School Connector to East Bay
Our landscape architect has submitted a Trail Design. This trail will allow students and neighbors to more easily reach Reeves Middle School and will become part of the trail network planned for Priest Point Park. NENA and our partners, the East Bay Drive Neighborhood Association  and Woodland Trail Greenway Association, leveraging grant funds from Thurston County STEPs, will work with the City and Olympia School District to build this trail while Reeves is closed for remodeling.
San Francisco Sidewalk
Work began on July 10! Details are provided in this SF Sidewalk flyer prepared by the City. Major construction was completed by August 18, and now we get to watch the art and landscaping go in.
Roosevelt Traffic Survey  Survey Results-Word    Survey Results-PDF
We received 35 responses to the Roosevelt Traffic Survey--thanks to all of you who took the time to let us know what you've seen at the Bethel/San Francisco entrance and how we might improve traffic flow and student safety. Take a look at our draft letter to the Olympia School District and others, which highlights the observed problems and proposed solutions.

This is our top-priority project for 2006 - making it safe for students to get to school and all of us to get to Friendly Grove Park! Construction is scheduled to begin late this summer, and should be complete by the end of September or early October. The sidewalk will be 6 feet wide and will run from Fir Street to Friendly Grove Road. It will be set back from the street by a  6- to 10-foot separation. Some sections will have a storm water ditch between the sidewalk and the edge of the travel lane. For more information, visit the City's Web site.
We wrapped up our place-making workshops on June 24th with hope, excitement, and a pile of creative, visionary, practical and whimsical ideas for transforming the intersection of SF and Bethel streets into a beautiful, safe and vibrant neighborhood crossroads. Check out Our Vision and some of the ideas generated at the workshops. Also please complete the follow up survey, which will help Olympia's Village Improvement Project as they work with the City to develop guidelines for future intersection repair projects around town.

Thank you to all of the neighbors and friends who shared their innovative ideas and insights at our Place-Making Workshops! We've prioritized our goals and will be devising a plan of action at our July 19 NENA Board meeting (please join us!). Stay tuned for news about our Fall Potluck, where we will begin the transformation.
A huge THANK YOU to Kathleen and Chariti from the Olympia Village Improvement Project for their commitment and skill in helping us wrangle our diverse ideas into a tangible plan of action. We're looking forward to bringing these ideas to fruition and assisting VIP as they formalize the intersection improvement idea for other neighborhoods in Olympia.
